My Favorite Spooky Movies!

Happy Saturday!!

Today was so busy! From the moment I got up I have been cleaning and decorating but as exhausted as I am right now, it is a good kind of exhausted that leaves me feeling accomplished. Tomorrow, I have 6 miles on the agenda in the morning in preparations for my 10K next weekend.

Since I have been scrolling through movies trying to pick the perfect Halloween themed movie to watch while I complete my mileage, I wanted to share with you some of my favorites!

Damiean and I were having a conversation over dinner about how some of my choices were not spooky. But!! I made sure to reiterate to him that they were MY choices! Some of these you may agree with, others you may not but these are my favorites during this time of year.

  1. Hocus Pocus- If you are unfamiliar with this movie, I cannot recommend it enough! A basic description will not do it justice but here is a little more information to familiarize yourself a little before you dive in! The Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Mary and Sarah were executed in 1693 for practicing witchcraft. However, moments before being executed they are able to use their living book of spells to utilize a curse to bring them back from the dead. A long 300 years later, Max Dennison and his family move to Salem. Max struggles to adjust after growing up in California. While spending the evening taking his sister Trick or treating, his parents are spending the evening at the towns Halloween Dance. In Max’s attempt to impress a girl, he winds up breaking a curse and bring the Sanderson sisters back to life! From that moment on, the witches pursue the children, bound and determined to cast their spells before the sun rises, before they turn to dust. To stop them, Max, Allison and Dani must work together to save themselves and the children of Salem.

2. The Addams Family and Addams Family Values- These are definitely cult classics that are a big favorite of mine. The first movie, The Addams Family- reintroduces us to the family and their creepy and kooky antics. As Gomez reels from the absence of his brother, Fester, for over 25 years an amazing turn of events occurs that suddenly brings Fester back into his life. But things are not as they appear and things are not adding up. As Gomez and “Fester” bond with one another, it is suddenly brought to his attention that as Fester is the oldest brother, he is the heir to the family fortune. Upon the revelation of this information, the Addams’ are dismissed from their residence to try and live a normal life among the regular townsfolk. After many twists and turns, an amazing revelation occurs and The Addams Family will never be the same! Because a lot of the premise of The Addams Family Values is based on what occurs in the resolution of the first movie, I do not want to give any spoilers. Just know that the second movie is just as good and definitely the most quote-worthy.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas- Our hero, Jack Skellington, has a variety of misadventures in Halloweentown. While he is the beloved Pumpkin Kin, he has become bored with the same old thing. While contemplating and walking through the forest, Jack stumbles upon Christmastown, after seeing the warm spirits and bright colors, his lease on life is renewed. Once he returns to Halloweentown, Jack begins to plan how to take over Christmas and become the new Sandy Claws! Even with the best of intentions, Jack soon learns that even the best laid plans don’t always work out.

4. World War Z- Some of you may not agree that this is a Halloween movie but I think it has just the right vibe for a suspenseful and creepy mood. I literally am on the edge of my seat every time I watch it. Gerry, a former investigator for the U.N. and his family are stuck in gridlock traffic when all the sudden the streets erupt in chaos. The city falls into mayhem around them as they struggle to get out. A lethal virus is spreading quickly and ordinarily healthy people are turning into something definitely not human. As this lethal virus is consuming humanity, Gerry is leading a search around the world try and discover a source and hopefully a cure before it is too late.

5. Casper- This movie is another classic that you definitely can’t go wrong with. When a paranormal specialist and his daughter,Kat, arrive at a mansion in Maine, they quickly find that it is not as quiet as they assumed. While attempting to communicate, they come in contact with Casper, the ghost of a young boy. Casper quickly falls in love with Kat but things become complicated when his troublesome uncles get involved.

6. Disney’s Tower of Terror- “Five people walked through the door of an elevator and into a nightmare…” When the Hollywood Tower is struck by lightning, the five people riding in that elevator fall 11 stories and become doomed to wander the hotel as ghosts. After all that time, a reporter and his niece are trying to uncover the mystery behind the tower. An old lady lets them in on a secret, but not everything is as it appears. Will the ghosts ever made it to the top or are they doomed to wander the halls forever?
