Wicked 10K Recap
Hey Everyone!! I hope you are having a fantastic day so far!
Today, I wanted to share with you my experience running the Wicked 10K this past Sunday.
This is my third year running in this event but my first year running the 10K. Packet pickup was extremely smooth and within 5 minutes I was in and out, bib in hand.
I got extremely lucky and the weather was amazing. However, the sun always seems to be shining on race day which is sometimes good and sometimes bad since it gets a little warm quickly.
Once I got myself settled and lined up at the start, it was time to run!
Once we started the pace was pretty good and the race course was not too crowded. One rough part was when we first got started, the neighborhood we were running by reeked of smoke from fires the night before and it was making my asthma act up. Luckily, as we got further away the smell faded quite a bit. Before I knew it we were at mile 1!
Mile 2 came quickly and I was really happy with my pace.
Miles 1 and 2 , for me anyway, are always the hardest because I am working on finding my stride and getting into a groove so passing mile 1 and then mile 2, felt really good.
As I headed toward mile 3, the sun was really starting to shine so I tried really hard to make sure I was hydrated.
I was thrilled to see mile 3 since it meant we were half way through!
Miles 4 and 5 were over before I knew it and I did notice that the race course was getting a little busier as all the different distances were converging toward the finish line.
My playlist was just getting good as we headed toward mile 6 and my pace felt amazing. Since this is my first race of the season, I use it as a gauge for what the season might be like. I am thrilled to say that this one felt amazing. Mile 6 was here and gone and the bridge to the finish was in sight!
Once I crossed the finish line, I grabbed my medal and headed over to meet Damiean and Sarah.
I was so thrilled that this race felt as good as it did. Once I got home, I was checking out my time and was shocked to see that I was 1 minute off of my best time! While I was a bit disappointed to not have beaten that, I now know what I am aiming for at my next race in November.
As always, this race was awesome and Startline did a great job of putting it together.
