Ever wonder how Disney princesses manage to wake up looking absolutely radiant, ready to take on whatever adventure the day might bring? While we might not have woodland creatures to help us get dressed or a fairy godmother on speed dial, we can definitely steal …
Sometimes, you just need to escape the daily routine and find a place that feels like a true retreat. Our recent stay at Rocky Rim Resort Cabins was exactly that, a chance to unwind, reconnect, and soak up the beauty of the mountains. We found the cabins while scrolling through Instagram and were invited to collaborate! After spending a weekend there, we can honestly say it’s one of the most memorable family getaways we’ve had in a long time.
The Perfect Setting in the Mountains
Rocky Rim Resort is nestled in the cool pines of Arizona’s Mogollon Rim country, just a couple hours’ drive from the Valley. The second we pulled up, we felt the tension lift.
The resort is made up of a collection of rustic yet modern cabins, each spaced out just enough to feel private but close enough that you still feel like part of a friendly little community. The kids were practically bouncing out of the car before we even unpacked. The grounds are well-kept and there are plenty of trails and open spaces to explore.
Our Cabin: Rustic Charm Meets Comfort
We stayed in one of their two-bedroom cabins, and it struck the perfect balance between cozy cabin vibes and all the modern comforts we need as a family. The decor was rustic but thoughtfully done, with warm wood interiors, big comfy couches, and a fireplace that made the whole place feel extra inviting.
One thing that stood out was how well-stocked the cabin was. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals together, which made it feel more like a home away from home. After a long day of exploring, there’s nothing quite like a family dinner with nowhere to rush off to.
The beds were very comfortable and there were tons of extra pillows, sheets and blankets to make sure everyone was warm enough. Even the kids, who can be a little picky about new sleeping spaces, settled in without any fuss.
Waking up to the sunrise filtering through the pines and enjoying a cup of coffee on the patio were some of my favorite parts of each morning.
Activities for Everyone
One thing we all loved about Rocky Rim Resort is that there’s truly something for everyone. For us, part of the charm was how much there was to do without feeling like we were on a tight schedule.
We could spend our days exploring the surrounding areas, venturing up to Show Low/ Pinetop or just relaxing on the porch.
The splash pad and the play area were a huge hit with the kids and they have been asking to go back since we got home!
A Place to Slow Down
One of the best parts about Rocky Rim is how easy it is to just slow down. There’s Wi-Fi available if you need it, but we made a point to disconnect as much as possible. Instead of screens, we played board games in front of the fire, told stories, and even roasted marshmallows at the community fire pits.
In the evenings, the air cooled off quickly, which made it perfect for bundling up in blankets on the porch while the kids played nearby. There’s something so peaceful about hearing the wind through the pines and seeing the stars come out with no city lights to dim them.
The Little Details That Made It Special
While the natural beauty is enough on its own, we really appreciated how thoughtful the resort is with all the little touches. From how clean and well-kept the cabin was to the friendliness of the staff, it felt like they truly care about guests having a great stay.
We also noticed how family-friendly the whole place is. It felt safe, welcoming, and laid-back, which is exactly what we needed.
The other families we met there said the same thing, it’s the kind of place people come back to year after year because it feels familiar and special.
Tips for Your Stay
If you’re planning to visit Rocky Rim Resort Cabins, here are a few things we’d recommend based on our experience:
Bring groceries: Each cabin has a full kitchen, so take advantage of it. There’s something fun about cooking breakfast with the family while you watch the sunrise through the big cabin windows. Note: There are grocery stores nearby but they close pretty early on in the day.
Pack layers: Even in warmer months, the mountain air can get chilly in the evenings.
Disconnect: Take a break from screens if you can. The quiet and natural surroundings are the best reminder to just be present.
Explore local spots: If you want to venture out, the area has plenty of little towns and scenic drives worth checking out. I will be sharing a separate blog post about some locations to visit!
Why We’d Go Back
We’ve stayed at a lot of places over the years, but Rocky Rim Resort Cabins stands out because of how it made us feel. It’s not just about the cabin itself, it’s about the time we got back as a family. The kids are already asking when we can go back, and we love knowing there’s a place close enough to get away but far enough to feel like a true retreat.
If you’re looking for a mountain getaway that’s relaxing, family-friendly, and full of charm, we can’t recommend Rocky Rim Resort enough. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how good it feels to slow down, breathe deep, and make memories that stick.
