Hey friends — Happy Monday! ✨ If you follow me on Instagram (if you don’t, you should!) you know that I am recovering from a nasty fall down the stairs that resulted in a fractured tailbone. This week is going to be slow going but …
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2026! I’m so glad you’re here as we kick off a fresh new year together. Whether you’re setting big goals, embracing small changes, or just taking things one day at a time, I’m excited to share this journey with you. …
If you’ve never experienced Disneyland during the holidays, let me tell you—it hits different. The entire resort transforms into a winter wonderland, and honestly, it’s when the magic feels most magical. As someone who’s been going to Disney during Christmas for years (and now gets to take my own kids), I’ve narrowed down my absolute must-dos for the season.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned Disney pro, here are the 10 things you absolutely cannot miss when visiting Disneyland during Christmas time!
1. Experience the Snowfall in Disneyland & Downtown Disney
Okay, we live in Arizona where it doesn’t snow, so when Downtown Disney makes it snow every 30-40 minutes, it’s kind of a big deal! There’s something absolutely enchanting about watching “snow” fall while you’re wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
The snowfall happens not only in Disneyland but also right in the heart of Downtown Disney, and it creates this perfect Instagram moment that also just feels genuinely magical. Pro tip: check the schedule so you don’t miss it, and grab a hot chocolate from one of the nearby spots to really complete the vibe.
2. It’s a Small World Holiday
If you only do ONE holiday overlay at Disneyland, make it this one. It’s a Small World Holiday is iconic, stunning, and honestly gives me chills every single time. The outside of the attraction is covered in thousands of twinkling lights, and inside, the classic ride gets a festive makeover with holiday music sung in different languages.
The façade lighting ceremony at dusk is also worth catching if you can time it right. Watching those lights come on for the first time each evening never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve seen it.
3. Haunted Mansion Holiday
Jack Skellington takes over the Haunted Mansion, and it is chef’s kiss. This Nightmare Before Christmas overlay is the perfect blend of spooky and festive, and it’s wildly popular (so expect longer wait times than usual for this attraction).
The attention to detail is insane—from the gingerbread house in the ballroom scene (which changes every year!) to the themed music to the holiday decorations throughout. It’s completely different from the regular Haunted Mansion, and honestly, I could ride it multiple times and still catch new details.
4. Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl
Over in Cars Land at California Adventure, Luigi’s gets a festive makeover that’s absolutely adorable. Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl is this fun dancing ride where the cars move to holiday music, and it’s just pure joy.
The whole experience is lighthearted and fun, and it’s one of those rides where everyone comes off smiling. Plus, Cars Land during Christmas is stunning with all the decorations, so it’s worth spending some time in this area of the park.
5. Mater’s Jingle Jamboree
Right next to Luigi’s, Mater also gets in on the holiday action! Mater’s Jingle Jamboree keeps the whip ride mechanics we love but adds in festive music and holiday theming that makes it feel brand new.
Cars Land really goes all out for the holidays, and having both these rides transformed makes the area feel extra special. Don’t skip this just because you’ve done the regular version—the holiday overlay makes it worth experiencing again.
6. A Christmas Fantasy Parade
This parade is EVERYTHING. A Christmas Fantasy Parade features all your favorite Disney characters in their holiday best, beautiful floats, dancers, and of course, Santa Claus bringing up the rear.
The music, the choreography, the costumes—it all comes together to create this spectacular show that reminds you why Disney is the king of parades. Fair warning: you might cry. I’m not saying you will, but you might. It’s that good.
Pro tip: Stake out your spot early if you want a good view, especially on weekends and during peak holiday season. And if you can catch it from Main Street with the castle in the background, that’s the ultimate view.
7. Visit Santa at California Adventure
Forget mall Santas—Disney does Santa RIGHT. Over at California Adventure, you can meet Santa Claus himself, and the whole setup is adorable. There’s often cookie decorating, crafts, and storytelling happening in the area too.
The lines can get long (it’s Santa, after all), but the experience is worth it. Plus, it’s one of those quintessential holiday traditions that makes the trip feel extra special.
8. Grand Californian Hotel Gingerbread House
Even if you’re not staying at the Grand Californian Hotel, you need to walk through and see their incredible gingerbread house display. And I’m not talking about a little gingerbread house—this thing is MASSIVE and intricately detailed.
The smell alone is worth the visit (it smells like Christmas and happiness), and it’s free to go look at. They also usually sell gingerbread cookies and treats nearby if you want to take a piece of the magic home with you. It’s one of those “hidden gems” that not everyone knows about, so definitely don’t skip it!
9. Snow on Sleeping Beauty Castle and All the Decorations
Can we just talk about how gorgeous Disneyland is during Christmas? The castle gets covered in snow and icicles, the garlands are everywhere, the wreaths are massive, and Main Street USA looks like it stepped out of a vintage Christmas card.
Honestly, just walking around and taking in all the decorations is an experience in itself. Every land has its own holiday touches, and there are so many photo opportunities that you’ll fill up your phone’s storage by the end of the day.
The castle during the day is beautiful, but at night when it’s all lit up? Spectacular. Make sure you see it both ways because they each hit differently.
10. Meet Minnie in Her Holiday Outfit
Last but definitely not least—Minnie Mouse in her holiday outfit is the CUTEST thing you’ll see all season. She’s usually decked out in festive attire that’s absolutely adorable, and meeting her during the holidays just feels extra special.
Character meets during the holidays have this extra sparkle to them. The characters are in festive moods, the decorations are all around, and it creates these picture-perfect moments that you’ll treasure forever.
Making the Most of Your Holiday Disney Trip
Here’s the thing about Disneyland during Christmas: it’s crowded. Like, really crowded. But it’s also absolutely worth it. The crowds are part of the energy and excitement, and honestly, seeing everything through my kids’ eyes makes any wait time or packed pathway completely worth it.
A few practical tips from someone who’s done this many times:
Arrive early. The parks are most manageable in the morning, and you can knock out several attractions before the crowds really hit.
Use Genie+ strategically. The popular holiday overlays like Haunted Mansion Holiday will have longer waits, so plan accordingly.
Don’t try to do everything in one day. If you can spread your visit over two days (one for each park), you’ll be less stressed and actually enjoy the magic instead of just racing through it.
Take breaks. It’s tempting to go-go-go, but taking time to sit, people-watch, and soak in the atmosphere is part of the experience. Some of my favorite Disney memories are just sitting on Main Street with a churro, watching the world go by.
Stay for the evening. The parks at night during Christmas are a completely different vibe. The lights, the cooler temperatures, the way everything glows—it’s when the magic really comes alive.
The Magic is in the Moments
At the end of the day, Disneyland during Christmas isn’t just about checking off a list of attractions and experiences. It’s about the feeling. It’s about being somewhere that takes the holidays and amplifies them into something extraordinary. It’s about creating memories with the people you love in a place that’s dedicated to making magic.
Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, these 10 experiences capture what makes holiday Disney so incredibly special. They’re the moments that’ll have you driving home with that bag of treats in the car, already planning when you can come back.
Because once you’ve experienced Disneyland at Christmas, every other version of the park feels like it’s missing something. It’s not just the most wonderful time of the year—it’s the most wonderful time at the most magical place on earth.
Okay, so let me tell you about this thing I’m doing. It’s called 75 Sparkle, and before you roll your eyes thinking it’s another one of those intense, no-days-off, all-or-nothing challenges… hear me out. Because this? This is different. What Even Is 75 Sparkle? If …
