Delicious Copycat Twisted Sugar, Sugar Cookies

Happy Sunday!!

I know I do not typically post on Sunday but since school is ending and parties are happening almost every weekend, I figured I would share a super delicious copycat recipe with you.

Last weekend I had tried Twisted Sugar for the first time since they just opened up down the street. They were SO good but SO expensive.

So after thinking about these cookies pretty much all week, I decided to try my hand at a copycat recipe.

While this recipe is not exact, I think they turned out pretty good myself. The frosting can be made any color so it keeps it fun for Memorial Day or any other themed event you may be hosting or attending.

Copycat Twisted Sugar, Sugar Cookies

Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 c. unsalted butter room temperature
  • 3/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 1 1/4 c. white sugar
  • 3/4 c. powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 5 1/2 c. Flour

Frosting

  • 3 sticks (1.5 cups) room temperature butter, unsalted
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 bag powdered sugar (2 lb. bag)
  • 1/4 – 1/3 c. milk
  • Food Coloring

Instructions

Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream butter, oil, sugars, water, extracts, and eggs.
  3. Separately, combine dry ingredients, then slowly add to wet.
  4. Mix until everything is combined.
  5. Chill for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Scoop or roll dough into 2-3 tbsp. sized balls. Lay out 9-12 dough balls, well spaced, on a cookie sheet.
  7. Put 1/4 c of powdered sugar in a dish (this is in addition to the sugar listed above.) Stick the bottom of a glass in it. This is going to be your cookie press. Firmly press it into the center of your dough ball. You want your dough to spill out over the sides of the glass.
  8. Bake at 350 for 7-8 minutes. They should just barely be set on the top (not even brown on the top). Remove from oven and let rest on pan.
  9. Once they cool, put them in the fridge while you make your frosting!

Frosting

  1. Start by creaming butter until fluffy and light. Slowly add powdered sugar. Mix until your frosting is the desired consistency.
  2. Add 1-3 drops of food coloring and whip on high for 3-5 minutes. The longer you whip it the fluffier off will be! Frost chilled cookies.

Note: I have been storing mine in the fridge in an airtight container and have found that they taste better cold!
