All About Connor! 3 Month Update
Hi There!
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
Since I do want to start doing monthly updates, I figured now was a good time to start! Connor turned 3 months old yesterday and it is hard to believe that time is flying by so fast! This post is going to be a little long but I thought I would share Connor’s birth story here in case any of you were curious!
During Connor’s 2 month check up he was 13.5lbs and 22.8 inches long. He was born with a full head of blonde hair and looks so much like his dad. When he was born he was 21.5 inches long and weighed 8.5lbs. We are under the impression he will be relatively tall considering Damiean is 6’3 and I am 5’8 but I guess we will find out!
Connor’s Likes and Dislikes
Connor loves being held! He loves snuggling and spending time with everyone. He loves the Nightmare Before Christmas and watches it almost everyday! He is extremely smiley and it appears he is a little bit ticklish already. Connor dislikes being put down and having the hiccups. He is okay with baths but prefers to be warmly snuggled against someone.
Sleep
Sleep is getting a little bit more consistent and he is up every 3-4 hours now instead of every 2. That is definitely an improvement since Damiean and I are both back to work now.
Clothing
Currently, Connor is wearing a 3-6 months in clothing. He hates socks and mittens!
Connor’s Birth Story
I guess we should start this portion where it started for me. On Friday, June 12th I went in for a standard doctor’s appointment. When they did my original stats they noticed my blood pressure was elevated but said they would give me some time and then check it again. Once they finished my exam they popped on the blood pressure cuff and it still had not calmed down. The doctor came in to discuss what were looking at and how he wanted to proceed, basically I needed to head over to the hospital to be monitored. At this point I was 38 weeks and 1 day along. Heading over to be monitored seemed easy enough and the nurse I met over there seemed think I would be on my way home in no time at all. I don’t know if any of you have had the pleasure of spending time in the labor and delivery triage but it is definitely an experience. I will say that there is not really an opportunity to relax very much which meant that my blood pressure was still very high every time they checked which was every 15 minutes! I feel like I got a little too good at gauging time because I could feel myself spike at regular intervals.Throughout the entire experience they kept mentioning that if my blood pressure didn’t come down, they were going to induce me During all this time Damiean was at home getting things ready just in case they decided to induce me. I was very anxious making decisions on my own and was counting down the minutes until he got there. About 2 hours into hanging out in the triage unit, Damiean had arrived and we were told that we were going to need to induce. I kept telling them I was absolutely not ready to have the baby yet but they said if I left it would be my own decision and that the risk, in their opinion, was not worth it. After a bit of discussion we decided that we were ready (as if you can ever be really ready) to have this baby. We were moved to our birthing suite that was thankfully just the two of us!
Damiean picked up a super quick dinner for us to enjoy before they hooked me up to the pitocin and started the process. After we were finished, I was hooked up and we were ready to start the process. Basically, they were going to up the dosage each hour to speed along the process. I was totally freaked out but surprisingly calm for someone who gets anxious over everything. The biggest suggestion I got from everyone was to try and rest but I am not sure they have ever tried to sleep while in the hospital. I tried to rest but it felt like someone was in the room every couple minutes checking on things or moving things around.
Time seemed to drag on at this point and it mostly consisted of scrolling through Instagram, texting friends and family and waiting. It wasn’t until around 8 the next morning that I started to feel some contractions. I knew that contractions would be bad but I had no idea what to expect. As things progressed further they got horribly uncomfortable and while I can’t completely remember what time it was, I did eventually ask for the epidural. I was one of the lucky few who have their epidurals not take completely the first time and while I did go numb on the right side, I could still feel everything on the left. Luckily the anesthesiologist was still nearby and came to make some adjustments. My contractions were pretty consistent at 2 minutes from start to finish and I was extremely happy when the epidural finally kicked in fully. Once I was settled in and finally comfortable I spent some time eating ice chips and counting down the minutes wondering when our little boy was going to be born. Eventually my water broke on its own which was such a weird sensation! I was unaware that after your water broke you could potentially continue to have what felt like water gushing with every contraction!
Once it hit around 4:00 p.m. the pressure was intense! From what I had heard the epidural would take care of the pain but I did not know that you would eventually reach a point where you would feel so much pressure. AT this point the contractions were taking my breath away so I decided to let the nurse know that I thought we were getting close. Sure enough I was officially 10cm dilated! I got nervous at this point because it felt like the big moment was upon us and it was finally time to push. We started the pushing process and unfortunately I wound up throwing up a few times during. Ultra glamorous but they said it was normal. Finally, at 4:34 p.m., Connor was born!
This moment was amazing. 38 weeks and 1 day of being pregnant and my little guy was finally in my arms. The love you feel is such an overwhelming emotion, I couldn’t help but cry!
Once he was wiped down, we did skin to skin for about an hour and half before they came in to do his measurements and weight.
At that point, Damiean finally got to hold him for the first time.
We were both so thrilled and so exhausted at this point! All I wanted to do was sleep but the excitement was enough to keep me awake for quite awhile. Plus, we were quite busy texting and calling friends and family. Having a baby during a pandemic is definitely an interesting experience!
Once everything settled down a bit and we were settled into our new room,Damiean went to grab us some food from Sonic. It was the one thing I was craving right after having Connor and I couldn’t wait. It was easily one of the best tasting meals I had ever had at that point! Also, a huge shout out to my sister and dad who drove all the way down to the hospital to drop off a Starbucks Frappe as a special treat!
We were in the hospital for 2 days after Connor was born and we were absolutely thrilled that he passed all of his tests. Going home was definitely a surreal feeling but we are truly blessed. Connor is such a sweet and good tempered little boy and we are so lucky he is ours.
